ISCA team members just wrapped up a week exploratory mission to Haiti to access the feasibility of developing a platform to offer agricultural expertise to international NGO’s, primarily in the area of agriculture. The project, funded by the PEI ADAPT Council, would serve as a way to assist the NGO’s by providing the expertise and knowledge to assess, develop, deliver, monitor, and evaluate agricultural projects designed to improve the lives of Haitians. The project seeks to identify these who may be interested in offering their expertise, and to assess if there is an interest among NGO’s operating in Haiti for this access to knowledge and skills. One positive emerging fact has been the adaptability of Island farmers to the Haiti context of small holder farms. Bringing practical sustainable solutions to the challenges Haiti farmers face, will ultimately result in improved incomes and better food security. The project is expected to complete its assessment in early December and will hold a public meeting in Charlottetown to present its findings. Be sure to check back to hear about how farmers can offer their skills and knowledge to improve the lives of Haitians.
