Spring is often associated with new beginnings. This spring, ISCA is pleased to announce that Haitian project partners, Let’s Go Leogane, will begin construction of a new laying barn on May 1, 2021. The Chair of Let’s Go Leogane, Brieyre Theodore, is excited to see the project going ahead. “The community will benefit in many ways from this project,” said Mr. Theodore. “First, the project will employ several people to look after the hens and to sell the eggs in the market, but also the project will supply good quality Haitian produced eggs.”
While the project will have rather modest beginnings of 120 laying hens, which should provide about 3,000 dozen eggs annually, Mr. Theodore hopes to see the project expand over time. “As we gain more experience and are profitable, we will see future expansion of the laying barn. It is good to start small, or as we would say in Creole, soti nan ti bagay, which means from small things.”
The project is funded 50 per cent through a generous grant from an American NGO, Hens for Haiti. ISCA is raising the remaining 50 per cent and is still accepting donations to go towards the project.
