ISCA recently published its preliminary report from the Observation Mission to the Scottish Referendum held in September. (Report can be found at www.isca-aidc.ca) Lloyd Dalziel, ISCA Chair and mission organizer, was pleased with both the level of interest in the observation mission and the quality of observers. “This mission brought together a group of individuals dedicated to supporting the democratic process and was committed to completing a thorough evaluation of the voting and counting procedures”, said Dalziel. “All participants put in long days before the vote in training on topics such as election observation methodology, code of conducts, and a historical overview of how Scotland arrived at this point. Much credit goes to these observers to their dedication and commitment.”
The preliminary report indicated the referendum represented the will of the Scottish people and does highlight other findings, such as gender breakdown of polling staff and levels of adherence to a number of election day procedures. For more information – info@isca-aidc.ca
